Plan before the appointment
Changing internet or getting a new router? Protect your Control4 system first.
A new provider can be simple for a phone or laptop. In a connected home, it may also affect app access, cameras, remote service, TV streaming, and other integrated equipment. A little planning avoids guessing later.

Before the provider arrives
Tell us what is changing
Share the provider name, appointment date, whether new equipment is being supplied, and whether the service is moving to a new location in the home.
Make a simple list
Note the systems you use remotely: Control4 app, cameras, door station, streaming, music, guest Wi-Fi, and any work-from-home equipment.
Photograph the visible setup
A wide photo of the current provider box, router area, and rack can help us identify what changed later. Keep labels, screens, and personal documents out of the photo.
Keep access safe
Do not send passwords, Wi-Fi credentials, account recovery codes, lock codes, or alarm information in a message. We will use the appropriate secure process if access is needed.
During the change
It is normal for internet-dependent functions to be unavailable while the provider works. Ask the provider to explain which box is theirs and leave the new service working for a normal phone or laptop. Avoid authorizing changes to the rest of the smart-home rack unless we have planned them together.
Routers, managed networks, Control4 controllers, power managers, access equipment, and camera systems may rely on a coordinated design. Resetting or changing them can remove useful diagnostic information and create more downtime.
After the provider leaves: a safe homeowner check
- Confirm a phone or laptop can use the new home internet.
- Try the Control4 app while at home on the usual Wi-Fi.
- Try one familiar room: a remote, keypad, TV, lighting scene, or audio favorite.
- If relevant, check a camera or door-station view using the normal app—not an equipment reset.
- Write down what works, what does not, and any exact message you see.
When to schedule a network migration visit
Plan professional help when the provider supplied a new gateway or router, the home has a managed network or rack, there are cameras or remote-access features, more than one access point, a large number of integrated devices, or several important systems stop working after the change.
A focused remote diagnostic may fit
When internet is up, the change is clearly described, and we can assess the symptoms safely without working on physical equipment.
An on-site migration may fit
When the provider equipment, network design, rack equipment, wired devices, cameras, or multiple rooms need hands-on verification.
Changing internet? Start with a clear plan.
Tell us your provider, appointment date, and what matters most in your home. We will help choose the right level of support before the change creates a longer interruption.
This is general planning guidance, not a configuration procedure for a particular network or Control4 system. Exact equipment, services, account status, and home design determine the proper work. Never share secrets in a standard inquiry.
