First, get the generations and sizes right

The model name and diagonal screen size are separate decisions. The latest T5 specification and the established T4 documentation define four useful choices.

CURRENT IN-WALL

Control4 T5

Designed as a thin, refined wall interface with magnetic trim and a proximity sensor.

  • 8-inch T5: compact for kitchens, bedrooms, offices, and secondary halls.
  • 11-inch T5: easier viewing for main living areas, security views, and media control.
  • Currently offered as an in-wall touchscreen.
  • 1920 × 1200 display, quad-microphone array, and built-in PoE design.
IN-WALL OR TABLETOP

Control4 T4

The established 8-inch and 10-inch family supports permanent wall locations and portable tabletop control.

  • 8-inch T4: compact in-wall or tabletop control.
  • 10-inch T4: larger in-wall or tabletop control.
  • Tabletop models dock magnetically to their charging bases.
  • In-wall models can use Ethernet/PoE or supported AC and Wi-Fi configurations.
What about 7-inch? Control4 made earlier 7-inch touchscreen generations, including T3 and older models. It is not a current T4 or T5 size. During an upgrade, the existing wall box and wiring still need to be inspected before choosing the replacement.

How touchscreens look in real rooms

These authorized Control4 lifestyle photographs show why placement matters as much as screen size. The best location is natural to reach, easy to see, and coordinated with the room's lighting controls and finishes.

1. Kitchen command point

Why it works: Lighting, shades, music, climate, doorbell, and cameras stay accessible in the room where the family gathers most.

3. Office and daily routines

Why it works: A nearby screen makes lighting scenes, privacy, climate, and whole-home status easy to manage during the workday.

4. Security and camera view

Why it works: The larger screen becomes a dedicated place to check the front door, driveway, yard, garage, and video doorbell.

The installation parts clients do not see

A clean touchscreen installation is a small system: display, trim, bracket or power box, wall box, structured wiring, network power, and programming all have to match.

T5 magnetic trim

Every T5 includes a pre-installed trim. Matching Lux colors are available for many finishes, and the Primer trim can be painted on site for a custom wall match.

T5 wall bracket and power

T5 uses a one-piece built-in PoE design and includes the wall bracket and screw kit. The optional C4-T5IW-AC accessory supports projects where PoE is unavailable.

T5 back box

The current specification supports a standard US two-gang J-box and listed Control4 new-construction or retrofit metal/plastic wall boxes. AC compatibility must be checked before rough-in.

T4 in-wall power box

T4 in-wall installations use the matching PoE or AC power/mid box, including C4-T4IWMB-POE or C4-T4IWMB-AC, between the touchscreen and wall box.

T4 wall box

New-construction and retrofit wall-box kits include C4-NWB57C-P/M and C4-RWB57C-P/M. Existing legacy openings still need to be measured before reuse.

T4 tabletop accessories

The tabletop screen includes its charging base. C4-T4PMNT provides a permanent mount, while C4-T4TBS8 and C4-T4TBS10 are the matching 8-inch and 10-inch bases.

Prewire checklist before drywall closes

Confirm T5 8, T5 11, T4 8, or T4 10 before cutting or boxing the wall.
Choose in-wall or tabletop based on how the room is actually used.
Run Cat6 to each planned in-wall touchscreen whenever possible.
Reserve the correct PoE switch or injector capacity.
Use the approved new-construction or retrofit box and mounting height.
Coordinate the touchscreen trim with Lux keypads, paint, and nearby wall controls.
Keep the screen away from heat sources and extended direct sunlight.
Plan cameras, doorbells, intercom, audio, and scenes before programming.

A simple recommendation for clients

Use the smallest screen that is comfortable for the room, then choose the mounting style that fits the client's routine. T5 is the premium current-generation wall choice; T4 remains important when tabletop control is the better experience.
