HomeWorks keypad design guide

Palladiom, Alisse or Aviena?

All three can control a Lutron HomeWorks system. The real decision is how the keypad should look, feel and belong in the room. This visual comparison makes that conversation easier.

The simplest answer: choose Palladiom when the control should visually recede, Alisse when it should feel like crafted jewelry, and Aviena when a weighted mechanical toggle feels right for the architecture. The best choice follows the interior—not a feature checklist.

See the three personalities side by side

These keypad families share the job of recalling scenes and controlling the home. Their proportions, materials and interaction are intentionally different.

Palladiom

Best for clean, modern interiors

A flush, planar keypad with rectangular buttons and a visually quiet profile.

  • Two, three, four or three-button plus raise/lower arrangements
  • Dynamic backlighting and custom engraving
  • Matching faceplate and buttons create one composed surface
Lutron Alisse circular-button keypad on a square faceplate

Alisse

Best when the keypad is a design detail

Circular buttons, illuminated halos and a hand-finished solid-brass faceplate give Alisse a more decorative presence.

  • One to six buttons in single- or double-column layouts
  • Eleven signature metal finishes listed by Lutron
  • Custom engraving with halo illumination
Lutron Aviena mechanical toggle keypad

Aviena

Best for tactile, heritage-inspired rooms

A sculpted solid-brass control centered on a weighted, center-retractable mechanical toggle.

  • Quick press and extended hold interactions
  • One to four toggle arrangements
  • Square, horizontal and vertical formats with five listed metal finishes

Do not choose a premium finish from a screen

Room light, adjacent metalwork and wall material can change how a finish reads. For a custom home, the keypad should be reviewed beside the actual paint, stone, wood, hardware and electrical devices.

Eight details to settle before ordering

1Keypad family

Choose the design language early enough to coordinate with the interior and electrical teams.

2Finish sample

Review a physical sample in the room's expected daytime and evening light.

3Button or toggle count

Give the household useful choices without turning the wall control into a command center.

4Engraving

Use short, consistent labels such as Welcome, Entertain, Shades and Goodnight.

5Wall format

Coordinate orientation, gang arrangement, mounting height and alignment with nearby devices.

6Wiring and backbox

Confirm the HomeWorks design, low-voltage wiring and required hardware before walls close.

7Scene behavior

Decide what each press, raise/lower action or extended hold should do in daily life.

8Construction protection

Protect finished controls and keep the final keypad schedule with the home documentation.

Our design recommendation

Use one visual language deliberately

A large home does not need every keypad to be identical, but variation should have a reason. A change in family or finish can make sense between distinct architectural zones; random room-by-room choices usually make the finished home feel less resolved. Confirm any mixed-family plan with the Lutron designer before ordering.
