Which SR-FS rack size fits your project?

Compare the Strong SR-FS 15U, 21U, 27U, 35U, and 42U cabinets with matching manufacturer images—then see what each size means before the room and equipment list get locked in.

The 27U SR-FS is a balanced middle size for many whole-home technology systems.
The quick answer: choose the rack from the actual equipment list—not by guessing. Count every required rack unit, allow room for shelves, ventilation and cable management, then reserve roughly 20–30% for changes. A rack that is exactly full on day one is already too small.

Every SR-FS size, one consistent view

These are the high-resolution zoom images from the signed Strong dealer catalog. Every rack uses the same clean studio angle, making this section suitable for a customer meeting. One rack unit (1U) equals 1.75 inches of usable rail space; exterior cabinet height is greater because of the top, base and casters.

Strong SR-FS 15U equipment rack

15U — compact

26.25 in. of usable rail height

Best starting point for a focused network, control, streaming, or small AV system.

Strong SR-FS 21U equipment rack

21U — small whole-home

36.75 in. of usable rail height

Useful when network, managed power, control, and a modest AV system share one cabinet.

Strong SR-FS 27U equipment rack

27U — balanced

47.25 in. of usable rail height

A practical middle choice for distributed audio, networking, control, and planned growth.

Strong SR-FS 35U equipment rack

35U — large system

61.25 in. of usable rail height

More room for amplifiers, AV distribution, shelves, ventilation, and future equipment.

Strong SR-FS 42U full-height equipment rack

42U — full height

73.5 in. of usable rail height

The maximum-capacity choice for extensive whole-home technology and the cleanest service layout.

Use these images to compare cabinet scale, then confirm the exact equipment list, rack depth, ventilation, service clearance, and current product availability before ordering.

What each size usually means

These are practical starting points for a client conversation. The final selection still comes from the equipment schedule and the rack’s usable depth.

15U

Focused system

Compact, but still large enough to organize a deliberate network or small AV equipment list.

21U

Combined core

A stronger fit when networking, managed power, automation, and several AV components live together.

27U

Balanced growth

A useful middle size that leaves more breathing room for layout, cooling, and future changes.

35U

Large system

Designed for a more extensive equipment schedule with amplification, distribution, and support hardware.

42U

Full height

Maximum SR-FS capacity for broad whole-home systems and the cleanest separation between system layers.

How Denali Tech sizes a rack

List every device

Document each component, its rack height, chassis depth, connections and ventilation requirements.

Add the support parts

Include shelves, drawers, patch panels, managed power, UPS equipment, cooling and cable management.

Plan the empty space

Reserve practical growth room instead of delivering a cabinet that is completely full on day one.

Check the real room

Confirm exterior dimensions, doorway access, service clearance, power, heat and cable entry before ordering.

Do not size by height alone. A shallow 21U rack may not accept a deep receiver, amplifier or UPS once rear cables and bend radius are included. Depth, ventilation and service access are just as important as U-space.

Want the right size before you buy?

Send Denali Tech your equipment list, room photos, or plans. We can map the rack units, depth, power, cooling, cable paths and expansion space so the rack fits both the system and the home.
